WHAT WE DO?

Ebenezer Centre provides support in the areas of Health and Wellness, Welfare and Discipleship and Education and Equipping. Working as a faith-based organisation, our commitment lies with providing guidance to disciple beneficiaries, so that they may be directed towards Jesus Christ. By guiding beneficiaries towards Jesus Christ, we provide them with a chance to seek salvation and grow.

Our main focus is to provide help to individual beneficiaries, in order to benefit the community. Individuals form communities and by investing in their spiritual and character development, we aim to give rise to a progressive community. We support beneficiaries to not only fulfil their basic needs, but also to help them progress mentally and spiritually.

In order to meet our goals of community development, we actively organise and engage in various activities, which include:

  • Food Programme

  • Planned visitation programmes

  • HIV/AIDS Support and Education

  • Holiday and after school educational sessions to help with literacy and numeracy

We also provide individuals access to a vast library of educational resources to help them grow and progress mentally.

Our primary focus is to help beneficiaries in acquiring education. We have been providing educational and financial support to a number of individuals, helping them to complete their primary, secondary and higher education. We provide them with uniforms and books and pay their school fees as well.

Ebenezer Centre offers equal support to all deserving individuals and works in association with the Social Service system and other church and non-profit organisations.

OUR VISION AND MISSION

Our VISION is of an Ebenezer Community Centre that is a place of rest and strength, where needs are met, people are healed, the community built up and hope is restored.

Our MISSION is to give hope through empowering and nurturing individuals and communities so that they move from dependency to self-reliance, from looking at the limitations of human effort to focus on a God who can do all things.

THE FUTURE

At Ebenezer Centre, we motivate individuals to learn and to become self efficient. By educating them, we aim to contribute towards the development of a progressive and healthy community. Hence, we invest in community building by providing easy access to educational facilities and resources.

We have developed a future plan that complies with our objective of helping with the development of an enlightened and educated community. In the near future, we plan to lay the foundation of a Creative Learning Centre, which is a result of our aspirations to motivate children to express and showcase their artistic talents. Our Creative Learning Centre will provide training in creative arts to children who otherwise may not have been provided with the opportunity to explore their creative side. At the Creative Learning Centre, children will get a chance to involve in activities like crafts, dance, drama and music. This way, they will be able to learn:

Initiative and enterprising

We have been actively contributing towards community development for a period of more than ten years. All throughout this period we have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This has exposed us to different cultures, ethnicities and perspectives and we have gained valuable experience in working with Thorngrove and its surrounding communities. We hope to continue to develop our relationship with these communities and to impact the lives, lifestyles and livelihoods of each of the unique people we encounter.

THE LEARNING CENTRE

A book club was started in April 2013. Our initial number of children attending was around thirty and we now provide support for up to forty children.

Book club focus is on reading, phonics, word recognition, understanding of texts and spelling. Unfortunately we cannot allow  the children to take books home as we have a very limited number available. We have learnt from a small college near us how to start and run a little library and once we have more books we can open a little library. Our staff  provides support in Maths, two afternoons a week, for Primary school children.

In order to assist children in the community who have not been attending school, Ebenezer has started a bridging school, focusing on teaching basic concepts, reading, writing and maths.

OUR STAFF

We have a full-time staff of seven, including the Director and Assistant Director, and from time to time have volunteer help in various areas of need.
